An excellent match is like finding a wrestler as good as Shawn Michaels, very rare. After all there are about 30 matches a week in the WWE programming without counting the live events. Of those 30 matches at least 5 are good matches and 1 is an excellent match. In other words, 3% of the matches are excellent and 16% of the matches are good. The rest of the matches are average or mediocre. The question is: what make an excellent match? In this article I will mention the three factors of an excellent match.
- 1) There are a lot of counters and close counts. I have an assignment for you. Watch the Dolph Ziggler vs Seth Rollins match of the June 16, 2014 edition of Raw and count how many counters Dolph Ziggler makes. It was a lot of counters and counter attacks. Also in the same match there were a lot of close counts. Close counts are when the referee starts to count and when he was about to hit the mat a third time the wrestler kicks out at 2 and a half. Is exciting to watch these matches even if you know who will win because it gets you the element of surprise and you can conclude that both wrestlers are excellent in the ring.
- 2) Both of the wrestlers are attacking each other. Nothing is more boring than watching a match in which a superstar is completely dominating other superstar. It is like the Rusev matches in whom he crushes his opponents in one minute or less. It is also like watching a baseball game in which the score is 10-0 in favor of the home team, very boring. We need the element of surprise; we need matches in which the two opponents are almost equal in talent and other abilities because that would be a great match. The win or loss column is not as important as an excellent match in which both wrestlers perform extremely well.
- 3) The finishers are used wisely. It is true that sometimes when two legends perform WWE wants to shake things up and the legends kicks out at two after their opponent finisher. However kicking out at two finishers is ridiculous and doesn’t have any credibility. It shows us that these wrestlers don’t have more repertory moves and his only move is his finisher. It is preferable to watch different moves and at the end when all moves are used then they can hit the finisher for the 3 count.
In conclusion, excellent matches make us better fans of the product because after all nothing is more important than a good match. There is no win or loss column in the WWE only good matches.
