There is no greater love than the love between a mother and child.
I would give my life for my child, no question.
The greatest thing in the world is feeling human life
Growing inside you for 9 months.
There is nothing like it.
Feeling your child’s hiccups, every little movement.
Seeing the little feet and elbows pop out of your tummy.
The next greatest thing in the world is holding and snuggling with your child.
Putting your arms around their little bodies and squeezing them, holding them close
Feeling their breath and smothering them with kisses.
Every single minute spent with your child is precious and fleeting
One minute you’re changing her diaper
The next she’s telling you who she’s going to marry!
We will make mistakes as parents and that’s ok.
There is great joy in reliving your childhood
With better toys
Better kids movies
And that playing Skeeball and Roller Skating to One Direction are great stress relievers!
We are who we are from the day we’re born.
We develop some traits from our parents and experiences
But the core of who we are is there when we enter this world.
And we don’t change.
I’m still the same shy, sensitive, introverted little girl dreamer I was when I was five.
My daughter’s personality hasn’t changed since she was born.
She came out smiling and is still smiling.
We are all insecure.
Men and Women, all ages
For some, we become more secure as we get older.
For others, not so much.
We’re all human.
We feel human emotions.
We get angry. We get hurt.
It’s ok to cry and get fired up sometimes.
No one knows how to communicate very well.
We’re all so afraid of hurting the other person
Or getting in trouble.
So we don’t say anything at all.
Or we’re afraid if we say too much
The person will run away.
Why can’t we just be honest with one another and stop playing games?
We are all in survival mode.
Every minute of every day.
Praying we don’t get cancer
Praying we don’t get into a car accident with all the freaks on the road
Praying we keep our jobs
And our bosses recognize how hard we work
Praying our children get through life in one piece
That they stay happy and healthy and have better lives than we’ve had
Praying we have money to buy groceries and pay our bills
Praying that loser guy, who isn’t right for us will call us back
Praying the girl will say yes when you ask her out
Praying that this date will be different from all the ones before
Praying all our relationships, partnerships, friendships
Don’t fall apart.
Praying at least one person out there somewhere understands us
And loves us.
We are all just trying to squeeze
Every ounce of joy from life’s sponge while we’re here.
Trying to steal as many hugs and kisses from our children as we can
(Before they hate us and want nothing to do with us).
Trying to enjoy as many good meals as we can
Trying to see our favorite bands live as many times as we can
We’re just trying to love and be in love and be loved by at least one compassionate soul
Who gets us and embraces us in all our imperfect glory.
There IS life beyond your television, computer and smart phone.
And there’s more to life than having thousands of “friends” on Facebook. 90 percent of which are people you’ve never met, only met once, or haven’t seen in years.
Drivers need to pay attention to the road
And get off their smart phones and stop texting.
Every day I see people weaving all over the road, coming into my lane.
And STOP means STOP. It doesn’t mean “Pause for a nanosecond”
Almost daily I see someone roll through a stop sign
Almost hitting me because they don’t want to take the time to stop.
Slow down. The world is not ending in 5 minutes.
That women need to be kinder to one another. We’re all fighting our own battles.
We all have insecurities. No one’s life is perfect.
Relationships are hard. Period.
With men and women
With significant others, family members, friends and co-workers.
We all have our own personality and think completely differently from anyone else.
We all have our own past and our own scars.
Life will never turn out exactly the way you want it to be.
But there are still beautiful moments
That are worth getting up out of bed and getting dressed for.
Worth putting a band-aid on the scars for.
Worth opening our hearts back up again for.
Life isn’t all rainbows and butterflies
But we all have that curiosity and hope.
Curiosity of what’s coming next
And hope that we might be able to squeeze
Just a little more joy out of life’s sponge.
