Two weekends of the most popular music artists? That’s right it’s that time of year again. COACHELLA! For those of you who don’t know what Coachella is, it’s a huge festival featuring music, art and food. They have everything from camping, restaurants, and boutiques. They have several different stages set up for all of the artists throughout the day. If music isn’t enough for you they have, well everything you can imagine and more.Games, races, and contests (including a “bad dancing competition”), a free beauty bar, ping pong, an art studio, the limbo, massages, yoga, and about a million other things to do and see.
Coachella started in 1999 and it was created by Paul Tollett, taking place in California. Every year they line up an astounding amount of artists. Some you’ve never heard of and some you can’t stop hearing about.
They feature all kinds of music genres, anything from hip hop, R&B, rap, Pop, rock, indie, electronic and more. According to their website they are featuring artists: AFI, Banks, Bear Hands, Blood Orange, Capitol Cities, Chance the Rapper, Dj Falcon, Ellie Goulding, Fish Bone, HAIM, Kate Nash, Lana Del Rey, Muse, Pharrell, Queens of the Stone Age, OutKast, The 1975, and Zedd, just to name a few of the many! (View this link to see the complete list http://www.coachella.com/lineup/ ) Last weekend they had surprise artists like Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Puff Daddy, Snoop, and Gwen Stefani, ‘pop in’, amongst others.
According to one website, “Coachella is one of the largest, most famous, and most profitable music festivals in the United States. In 2010, it drew about 75,000 people each day, for an estimated attendance of 225,000 people per weekend. According to Billboard Box score, the 2013 festival’s two weekends grossed $67 million, making it the highest-grossing festival ever”
The first weekend was last week, and the second week is this upcoming one. General admission is $375 and VIP is $799. They have camping, tents, dinners, and shuttles as well to choose from. At that rate, despite all of the artists it’s kind of hard to image that they are completely sold out, so don’t get your hopes up!
Spotted in the crowd were celebrities like Leonardo Di Caprio, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Lindsay Lohan, Sarah Hyland, and Paris Hilton. Who knows who will show up this weekend!
