Mara Wilson was a very popular child actress in the ’90s. She left the acting business in 2000 but has been keeping herself busy. Here’s where Mara Wilson is now.
Mara Wilson was born July 24, 1987, and made her first debut in a feature length movie in 1993’s Mrs. Doubtfire. She charmed the hearts of many in her next role as Susan Walker in the 1994 remake of Miracle on 34th Street. This role showed off her acting skills and soon she became one of the most popular child stars from the mid to late 90s. It came to a point that every year there was expected to be a family movie coming out with her starring in it. Movie studios were sending her scripts which gave her the opportunity to select roles without having to audition for them. In 2000 though she decided to call it quits on the acting business after starring in Thomas and the Magic Railroad.
Focusing on school.
After Thomas and the Magic Railroad Mara decided that she wanted to focus more on school than on acting which is understandable since she had gotten into the business at just 5 years old. In 2005 she ended up graduating from Idyllwild Arts Academy, which is a boarding arts high school. She has since attended classes at New York University where she learned how to write playwrights and other literature.
Where she is now.
Mainly Mara is now a writer and even has her own website where she displays her writings. She has also written an Off Broadway play titled Sheeple. She likes to write within the young adult genre and has written articles about her opinions on child acting. Mara has stated one of the reasons she has no urge to get back into acting professionally is the pressure that is felt from the directors. She enjoyed directors that gave her freedom of expression but it was rare for her to experience it. She’s very creative and now enjoy simply expressing herself through her various writings. Mara has guest starred in various podcasts and YouTube videos recently in the past couple of years but as of right now she has no desire to act professionally again. When asked about rumors that the movie studios didn’t want her anymore after she got older she has responded that it was a mutual understanding. She seems to be happy with her writing career now which is great for her. Unfortunately many child actors don’t end up having a happy ending but for Mara Wilson she continues to live out her happy ending.
