If we decide to take military action against Russia, It will be a battle that I don’t believe we could win. Not because we don’t have a capable military, but because we are so evenly matched. Republicans would like us to believe that President Obama is weak because he does not show a stronger objection to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. What do they suggest, we go to war? I don’t believe that any U.S. President would be so foolish as to get into a “donnybrook” with Russia.
People are already talking about the mushroom clouds over New York City and that in itself dictates that we use other means to solve this problem. Only Putin knows why he decided to invade especially after he went all out to make sure the athletes were safe during the recent Olympics. Some say that the games went off without a hitch because of the fact that Vladimir was, at one time, the head of the KGB. Now that indeed may be the case, but we can’t argue with the results. But it does make one wonder how long has he been planning this Ukraine “land grab”? Is he trying to rebuild the old USSR as it was in the early 1900’s? Only he knows, and I doubt that he will be willing to let the world know his intentions. He has stated that he will not push any further into Ukraine, and I for one, don’t believe he will. That’s just my opinion, but others think that he may go further. He claims that he is just protecting the Russian population in Crimea which is a valuable Soviet port, and it’s been said that the recent elections by the people to join Russia was “fear based”. To me it looked legitimate and the voters looked like they had their minds already made up.
With the sanctions in place, and his invitation to the G8 summit invalidated, he has put his reputation and his credibility on the line for a reason, we may or may not come to know. At this point everybody’s just guessing, and unless he wants to sit down with the world leaders and come clean about why he did it, that’s all it will be is just guessing. But I can tell you this, with both countries being a super power, contrary to what the President said at the summit about Russia’s status, a war with Russia should not even be on the table.
