I was forced into going to the doctor by my loving husband. We moved from our hometown to a new city for his job, and I suppose we needed to see someone. I’m only 25 and really didn’t think I needed to go. Not to mention I hated getting onto a scale and have someone tell me I should lose some weight. I’ve been overweight my entire life and have always dreaded going. This doctor was awful. She was old and mean. I had reached an almost unspeakable weight, and she told me I needed gastric bypass surgery. I was literally killing my adorable sons mother. I was mortified. I had to make a change.
I came to find out very quickly that I knew absolutely nothing about weight loss. I decided to just add fruits, vegetables, and lean meat to my diet. I was making healthy dinners that actually tasted pretty great. I lost 11 pounds my first week and was amazed. Just from adding foods, and taking away nothing my body responded. Now it was time for the real test. I switched to whole grains (which I thought I hated) and take the fat out of my diet almost completely. I seemed to go through almost a withdraw. I was craving a cheese burger like nobodies business. I stuck to it and my body was showing it. I lost 20 pounds in the first month.
After about a month and a half my skin started to break out. It was horrible. I have never had acne in my life. When I ate a whole bag of chips, my skin never showed it. So, why now? I had completely changed my diet and wasn’t eating anything unhealthy. According to my new crypt keeper doctor, my skin was pushing out all the toxin in my body through my skin. If that was going to start happening, I was in for it. Luckily, it only lasted about 2 weeks and then my skin went back to normal.
I started taking walks after dinner with my family. We moved to a new city and I was excited to explore it anyways. We found a beautiful park about 2 blocks away and starting riding bikes on Saturdays. Just adding a few minutes of exercise into my life my weight loss kept moving.
My husband was so supportive. He lost a few pounds himself, but he never really had much to lose. It made me love him even more. Did you know that kissing for 10 minutes a day can burn off around 10 pounds a year. Real thing!
The amount of things that I learned along the way was unbelievable. Here are some great tips that I think everyone should know.
Drink green tea. Its a real thing. Drinking around 4 cups a days puts your body in fat burning mode. It targets belly fat.
The color blue is an appetite suppressant. Believe it or not, if you have the color blue around you, you will eat less. Buy some blue plates. Its an easy, cheap thing to do and it really does help. The colors red, yellow, and orange actually make you hungry!
Make hot sauce your best friend. Spicy food turns up the heat on your metabolism after eating. Adding a few dashes of hot sauce to your meals revs up your metabolism and gets rid of the body fat.
One of the most important things to remember is don’t starve your body. I found this hard at the beginning. When I switched to healthy foods it felt like I was eating so much, and so often. I was always full. I had a hard time reaching my caloric intake. Eating less than 1200 calories a day puts your body in starvation mode. This makes it almost impossible to lose weight. Your body wants to store everything you take in.
It was hard. I wanted to give up a million times. A few days a month I actually did give up. I ate my cheese burgers, and chocolate from time to time. Slip ups are okay. You just have to keep going afterwards.
