Weight loss is hard, but not impossible. Two years ago I was 160 pounds, depressed, and always sad. I did not realize I was eating my depression. After taking pictures for a calendar for my university, I realized that I did not look or feel like me. I did not want to be 40 pounds overweight, so I decided to do something about it.
Commit to Exercise
My first step was committing to an exercise program. I did not want to participate in a traditional aerobics class or pump weights; so I chose Zumba. The first time I went I lasted 30 minutes before I got dizzy and almost passed out. I went home feeling defeated and even more depressed.
I decided to try a different Zumba instructor for round two. The new instructor had a completely different teaching style. I completed my second Zumba class and went home soaked in sweat. When I got up the next morning my muscles were sore and I could barely stand up; of course, I was ready for more.
After six weeks of routine exercise, I was not seeing the results that I wanted to see. I then learned the importance of calorie counting. I had eliminated sweets from my diet, but I did not take into account other forms of ”bad” calories, because I did not have an understanding of them. To help me develop better eating habits, my Zumba instructor suggested ViSalus protein shake to help me establish good practices.
ViSalus shake mix can be use with all the makings of a Smoothie King smoothie or can be mixed with water or almond mix alone. When using ViSalus, the weight dropped off very quickly in the first three months of using it, then it got a little harder. When I plateaued I got frustrated, so I decided to start counting my calories.
I choose to use the Calorie Count app on my iPhone to keep close track of my calorie consumption. I realized that, when using ViSalus, calories still need to be considered; every piece of fruit or other ingredient added to the shake counts toward the calories and should be recorded in the calorie counter.
The calorie counter and Zumba allowed me to keep track of my food consumption and lose 30 pounds in three months. I am now a Zumba instructor changing other peoples’ lives the way my Zumba instructor changed mine.
