This just in–it’s Spring! Now that the warmer weather is finally kicking into gear, it’s time that you went along with the program. It’s definitely difficult to lose weight; maybe you don’t like to go to the gym, watch what you eat, and follow a disciplined program. Well, this article suggests ideas that could help you have fun, lose weight, and enjoy the warmer weather all at once.
1) Run Outside
If you don’t like the idea of going to the gym and using a treadmill, then go ahead and start running outside. Find a nice park or track that you would enjoy running on and then begin by running at least three times a week. Start off slow and don’t overwork; eventually, work yourself up to doing a quicker mile and then even a longer distance. Remember–always challenge yourself! You never want to get to a point where you’re not progressing.
2) Walk Outside
If you’re not able to run due to health problems or just not being in good enough shape, then don’t be afraid to walk instead. The same rules apply, though; keep progressing week by week in order to build stamina and endurance. Also, if at all possible increase the amount of times you walk per week. If it’s possible for you to walk every day for at least 30 minutes, then do it! Increase the length or speed each week and hopefully you’ll work your way to a power walk, then slow jog, then a run.
3) Use a Bike
If you want to change things up a bit after running or walking, then try incorporating a bicycle to your program. If you run three times a week, you might consider adding a 4th day where you can just use a bike (and same with walking!). The main concern is that you increase your level of activity. Once you get used to doing a lot of healthy activities, you’ll see a lot of progress with yourself.
4) Play a Sport
If you can, even if it’s just with friends, try to play some type of sport at least once a week. Not only does this give you extra motivation to workout the rest of the week, but it will also provide you with a lot of fun while getting in shape. If you can’t find anyone to play a sport with, then shoot a basketball around by yourself; but, make sure you are running to get the ball, jumping whenever you can for a rebound, and taking difficult shots–you want to be moving!
5) Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Spring is a perfect time to eat more fruits and vegetables since they are being grown more all over the place. In fact, you can even go and pick your own fruits on certain farms, which provides you with some great tasting food but also some exercise in the form of walking.
6) Find Healthy Snacks
Warm weather doesn’t just mean fun activities; it means junk food–lots of it. From the Ice Cream Man who travels your neighborhood everyday to the family barbecues, there are a lot of ways in which you can slip up from eating healthy. But, there are some healthy alternatives which don’t include merely eating fruit as your snack (though that’s good!). Go to a grocery store and look for frozen fruit bars, low calorie ice cream, and Turkey burgers. This way, you can still enjoy barbecues and ice cream while losing weight and being healthier.
