Here is Sonia, waiting for Ismail. She’s sitting on the corner of a bench at Victoria Memorial. The bench situates on the North side of the famous pond of Victoria. It’s the end of March; the spring festivity of the city is running in full swing. Sweet southern breeze coming over water of the pond passing gently over her body and face. It is soothing her mind also. She feels so freshend, and smiling within herself. Absentmindedly she giggles with a bit sound; there’s a couple in the bench deeply engaged in their own selves, they are not disturbing Sonia They even looked up in the sound of Sonia’s giggle. She becomes ashamed but went back to her own thought, tried to recollect her first meeting with Ismail.
She smiles to herself again, vividly recollects Ismail’s face just four year back in the library room of the university. She was deeply in a book of Economics, “How to make card of the library?”, an awkward mild sound entered her ear, she raised her face, saw a very absurdly dressed sturdy young man of twenty two. Sonia still recollects Ismail in so absurd a dress in the university ambience; she cannot restrain her giggle again; oh! What a dress that was, a red shirt over a dirty pajama, a market bag full of some old books and other trifles. That timid voice of Ismail still rang in her ear. She restrained her laughter somehow, and pointed to the east of the room and told gently,” pl. go there, find assistant librarian there, he will brief you.” So saying she plunged herself in her reading; the boy went his way. After fifteen minutes the boy came back to pass by her side, Sonia looked at him and hesitatingly asked, “Which class?” “Econ Fifth year” ‘Is it so?’ ‘I’m also there.’ Sonia quipped,’ ‘see u in the classes. ‘Oh yes,’ the boy shied away then.
Needless to mention. They met in the classes, she knew her name Ismail, a peasant’s stout boy passing from a mofussul college with high scores to get himself admitted in the city university. He knew her name Sonia, having her mother only, a nurse in city hospital. Being almost of the same status they mixed with each other very easily. What attracted Sonia most is Ismail’s simplicity and honest laborious nature, Ismail is also attracted to Sonia’s honesty of purpose, though a city girl she is neither over smart nor insincere. And at present both of them are successful. And what change Ismail has made to herself! He is now bright young man of twenty six.
She is in depth of herself, hearing a pinch sound she opened her eyes, and oh! Ismail is standing in front of her with smiling and shining eyes. He gently said,’ ‘let’s go.’
