The thing I love about Wahlburgers is that the Wahlbergs are so authentic! There’s no pretense or apologizing or I’m-a-movie-star-so-I’m-better-than-you attitude. It is just a large family (Mark Wahlberg is the youngest of nine children) who believe that, above all else, family and friendships come first.
Wahlburgers is a reality TV show staring Mark and Donnie Wahlberg as investors in their brother Paul’s restaurant chain, Wahlburgers. Season 1 Episode 9 featured Mark Wahlberg’s entourage of Johnny Drama, Nacho Extreme, and Billy flying out to LA to visit Mark and shoot golf balls off this gorgeous cliff right outside Mark’s back door. Mark started an intervention for the 200 plus pound Nacho after Nacho ate all of Mark’s Wahlburgers. Nacho stepped into the boxing ring and lasted two rounds against Mike Lee, a light heavyweight boxer half Nacho’s age.
Mark also hooked Johnny Drama up with an audition in his remake of The Gambler, (originally starring James Caan). Although Johnny Drama was nervous during his audition, he made Mark and the producer laugh which Mark promised was a good thing. Later, back in Massachusetts for another Mark Wahlburg premiere, Mark told Johnny that it looked like he had gotten a part in the film, just not the part he auditioned for.
Back home, Wahlberg brother Paul received an unsolicited script from wannabe screenwriter trying to connect his precious project with Mark Wahlberg. Paul, as lovable and passive as he is, took the script but intended to shove the papers in a file drawer with the hundreds of other unsolicited materials he has received. However, his mother Alma had other plans. In between working her duties at the restaurants, she dug out the scripts and read each one until she found a gem. She loved the sad tale of a police officer struggling with the idea of aging. Going undercover at a nursing home upped the ante for her and she felt this script deserved a chance. Episode 9 ended with Alma trying to pitch Mark, noting that the script for The Fighter came to Mark via Donnie Wahlberg from an unsolicited source. Mark told his mother she could produce the movie and Paul could star in it. Maybe Johnny Drama would have a cameo and Nacho the extreme boxer could show off his new moves?
You just never know what wild and crazy things will happen when you hang around the Wahlbergs, and that’s why millions of people tune in to A&E Wednesdays at 10:30 pm to watch.
