When taking a trip down your grocery store’s produce aisle, you may or may not ever come across any vegetables that you have never tried before. However, there are many vegetables that grow all around the world that some people have never even heard of before. After eating some of these, you will be thanking mother nature for her wild, exotic plants.
Purple Sweet Potatoes.
Sweet Potatoes aren’t just orange, they are purple, too. The color is so beautiful and stands out in any salad. They can be used exactly as your traditional sweet potatoes are used. The taste and cooking times are slightly different than that of orange potatoes, so the first time you cook with them, you will have to watch carefully.
Speaking of potatoes, who knew they had a cousin? The Oca is similar to the potato but definitely has its differences. First of all, it’s sweeter and tangier. They texture is also slightly different. The look of the Oca is almost identical to the potato, except that the colors are much different.
This exotic cauliflower plant is so unique. It has a pattern that actually looks psychedelic. It’s taste is a lot like cauliflower, but definitely not the same thing. The only problem with romanesco is that it’s so mesmerizing and beautiful, that it’s almost shame to eat it.
A potato-like root veggie, this celeraic not only has little to no starch in it, but it also grows in a different season than the potato. It looks rather weird, kind of lumpy and white. However, the taste is very similar to potatoes, so it’s something that wouldn’t take the taste buds too much time to get used to.
This cactus/succulent is a veggie that is fleshy and delicious. Many people can use them in vegetarian and vegan recipes.
They taste just like the regular radishes, except they have a stronger spice flavor.
This fruit is just like the tomato in the sense that it is used as a vegetable. It is comparable to cucumbers, and it can be eaten fresh, cooked, or used for pickles in place of cucumbers.
