Whether you’re bugging out, bugging in, or simple need a vehicle for around the homestead, vehicles will be invaluable in any disaster scenario.
The first thing I must say is that if you’re buying a car or a truck, you’re best option is diesel. There are many advantages and disadvantages to diesel how ever. Firstly, you will get more miles for your gallon. This will allow you to travel farther than before and get good gas mileage. Secondly, you can use alternative fuels such as vegetable oil etc. Many articles and videos online will instruct you on how to do this. Diesel engines not only get better gas mileage, but the engines will last upwards of 300,000 miles. This is good when mechanics are not readily available.
Car or truck? Both have advantages, but a truck will serve your purpose much better when prepping than any car. You have an enormous amount of room for various supplies, people, and animals in the bed of a truck, as well as room, you have hauling capabilities, 4 wheel drive, and good off road capability. A good diesel truck is your best option, it will get you where you need to go with good gas mileage (compared to other trucks) easy to acquire fuel, and great capabilities with storage and transportation of weight and people.
If you have a lot of money to expend on prepping, I suggest that you go with a military surplus tank, armored personnel carrier or even light armored vehicles. These are practically not destroyable bullet proof and have huge offensive capability if it has a main gun, turret, or gun ports. These are pricey and will range upwards of 20,000 dollars but are well worth it. The issue is that if they break down, it will be very difficult to find parts and fix, as well as you can’t use it as a daily driver. Some will say this is worth it how ever as you can carry a huge load, haul things, and be completely protected from small arms fire.
A good truck for prepping would be a newer model of a Toyota Tacoma with a v6 for gas mileage. Or for a diesel option you can go for a Ford F-250 super duty. Both of these trucks will serve you very well in a doomsday scenario. You can modify all of these vehicles to best suit your need as well, which is highly recommended.
