In a recent issue of Pharmacognosy Magazine, a research group in India published their findings on the intake of turmeric and how it helps protect the brain from fluoride damage. This spice is widely used in Asian and Indian Cuisine. The study group from Mohanlal Sukhadia University found that turmeric not only neutralizes existing fluoride but also safeguards against additional fluoride damage.
By evaluating the effects of turmeric in mice, researchers noticed that curcumin, a widely known nutrient within turmeric, had an amazing effect in stopping and preventing damage to brain cells. It produces powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity which protects against many forms of cell damage. Supplementing with turmeric will totally reverse the damages caused by fluoride.
With knowing that fluoride causes both neurodegenerative and neurotoxic effects on the brain, the research group tested the effects of fluoride alone. The mice were placed on a 30 day regime before being analyzed. At the conclusion of the study, it was discovered that mice who were administered fluoride had significant increases of malondialdehyde (MDA). MDA is the indicator of oxidative stress. Mice ingesting the same quantity of fluoride in addition to curcumin, revealed the power of turmeric. A significant reduction in MDA levels were observed after the treatment.
