It’s a fabric that’s so light and airy, decorators frequently implement tulle into bridal and baby shower décor. One good way to work tulle into your design scheme is by using the fabric as a chair sash. Whether you want to cover just one mommy-to-be’s chair or you need to dress up an entire dining hall, tulle chair sashes are a simple craft project. Hide ripped or ugly seats and make every guest feel important by wrapping the chair back with tulle. Pick a fabric color that complements your color palette. If you want extra sparkle, choose fabric with a bit of shimmer. For a dramatic touch, double fabric colors and use them together in this tulle sash project.
Here’s what you’ll need for this DIY job: yards of tulle, a measuring stick, scissors, silk flowers, wire cutters and floral wire.
Tulle Chair Sash Tutorial
- Unroll the tulle on a clean surface. Leave the tulle doubled but measure 3-feet of fabric. Cut the measured piece from the bolt using your sharp scissors.
- Place the chair in front of you. The back of the chair should face you. Center the tulle around the back, gathering the two ends in your hands. (You will create a knot at the back of the chair so guests don’t have to lean against it.) Knot the tulle to secure it in place. The tulle should be tight enough to stay in place but loose enough for you to work with.
- Trim a silk flower from the bush using the wire cutters. You should leave 3 to 4-inches of wire stem. Wrap the flower’s wire around the knot and twist it into place. Cut a 3-inch section from the floral wire with the wire cutters. Wrap the wire piece around the end of the cut flower to keep the flower in place. The flower should hide the knot and wire.
- Cut the ends of the two tulle sections to make a fluffy ends or leave the sections hanging down in a flowing manner. All your chairs should have equal lengths of tulle.
For variety, cut several silk flowers and add a small cluster bouquet to each chair.
