Sleep. It’s an amazing thing. That is, until you are having trouble obtaining it.
All my life I have had problems sleeping. Problems falling asleep when i have to wake up at a certain time, and falling asleep just in general. Finally I found the best solution to my problem: Turn off the lights. By this I mean all electronics as well as your lights at least an hour before bedtime.
Back before technology we woke up in the morning and went to sleep at night naturally. This is because of the sun. The sun rises, you rise too. The sun sets, you go to sleep. It isn’t as simple these days. The lights inside your house as well as on any devices (besides certain devices that use different lighting) actually trick your internal clock into thinking its daytime, mimicking the sun. This keeps you awake even when you know you should be sleeping.
It makes sense doesn’t it? So likewise if you want to trick your body into thinking it’s night, turn off the lights.
If this isn’t as helpful as it should be then try reading a book. Television is a double whammy when trying to fall asleep. Not only does it produce unnatural sleep ruining light but it will keep your mind rolling when you need it to just shut down. Listening to music while trying to fall asleep seems to have the same effect. unless it is soothing rain forest sounds. Your favorite band playing while your trying to sleep might make laying there more tolerable but it will also keep you awake.
In a nutshell, when you need to fall asleep, turn off the electronics.I hope this advice is as helpful to you as it was to me.
