“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.”
A wise one knows the caged bird sings
because her inner joyous song
arises free of life’s cruel stings–
in spite of them, she leaves the throng
of suffering masses–holds her note
of hope (in higher octave tones)
as fear and freedom both promote
her heart to enter danger-zones.
She stands upon her grave of dreams,
and yearns to claim the sky her own.
As startling truths break through the seams
she comes to it–and climbs the throne
of harmony in wisdom’s flights.
She shares her voice in cherished rhyme–
to prompt awakening, she writes;
and now her words still chime through time…
