While gallivanting through the remarkable continent of Europe, you will discover endless options for recreation and enjoyment. Although London may seem the most popular and commercialized, other cities, such as Bristol (located in south west England), continue to grow and attract a wide variety of tourists. Bristol is considered top 10 in the ranks among many of the largest cities in Europe, known for its artistic culture and diversity. While jaunting through the beautiful city, you can choose between sight seeing via boat rides, admire the fascinating street art, or visit the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta and observe the city at high altitudes in a hot air balloon.
Many people may get caught up with the entertainment and attractions of Bristol, and as a result may neglect to explore and exceed the extremities of the city. I decided to be adventurous and investigate the outer layers of the beautiful city in search of an attraction called the Wookey Hole in Somerset, England. This place is designated for children but can also bring the inner youth out of you, while at the same time intriguing you by taking a tour through their famous caves.
What Does the Wookey Hole Have to Offer?
The Wookey Hole consists of many entertaining features for the entire family. Such features includes a pirate themed miniature golf course, the Wookey Witch, whose energy and playful banter will charm your children, a peaceful garden, an exhibit on dinosaurs and the Ice Age, and the choice of exploring the eerie Wookey Hole Caves.
What Should I Wear?
Anything comfortable, dress accordingly to the weather.
How far is the Wookey Hole from Bristol?
This attraction is about twenty miles from Bristol.
How Can I Get There?
I opted to rent a car for my journey. This method enabled me to reach my destination within 40 minutes. If you can’t afford a car rental, then another way to reach the Wooky Hole would be by taking public transit. Essentially you would have to take a train, a bus, and then car any way via taxi or rental. Unfortunately, it is not a straight route by public transportation. The public transit system will get you to your destination in an hour and forty minutes. It seemed more logical to rent a car and drive.
Directions to Wookey Hole via Public Transportation
Check the local Tourist Information Centre to pick up bus schedules and tickets. You can take the train at Bristol Temple Meads going towards London Paddington (one stop) until you reach Bath Spa. From there you would have to transfer to a bus at Bath City Centre Bus station. Take the bus towards Street, The Library until you reach the Wells bus station. Finally you would have to take a taxi to the Wookey Hole.
If you do decide to drive, you would be happy to know that the Wookey Hole provides free parking.
There are many other fun attractions and places to visit outside of Bristol. The Wookey Hole is one great place to visit especially if you are traveling with your family. You will experience fun, excitement and a chance to escape reality. Keep this attraction in mind if you are in Europe, and remember have a happy and safe travel!
