For some league’s making the playoffs is easy. While in some, seeing the post-season is a very challenging thing. I am going to use some of the five most popular professional sports as my example. The NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and WNBA. Here is the list of the toughest leagues to make the post-season in.
#1 Toughest League – MLB: There are 30 teams in the MLB. Only 10 teams make the post-season, making it 33.3%(1/3) of the league that makes the post-season.
#2 Toughest League – NFL: The National Football League has 32 teams. Out of that 32, only 12 make the post-season. That is only 37.5% of the teams that make the post-season.
#3+4 Toughest League – NHL and NBA: The NHL and NBA both have 30 teams in their leagues. 16 teams make the playoffs in both leagues. Making it 53.3% of the teams make the post-season.
#5 Toughest League – WNBA: The WNBA has only 12 teams in their league. The top 4 teams from each conference make the playoffs. So that is 8 total teams. That is 66.7%(2/3) of the league that makes the playoffs.
So the toughest league to make the post-season in is the MLB. The next hardest is the NFL. The NHL and NBA have over half the teams making the playoffs. The WNBA is the easiest league to make the playoffs in.
