Avocados are very tasty. They are used in many recipes, such as tacos. Their skin looks like fine leather, which makes them very appealing.

Avocado is a fruit that matures on the tree, but ripens off of the tree. They can stay on a tree, for as long as 18 months. The tree prevents them from ripening, by releasing a substance. They basically preserve avocados, until you’re ready to use them.

Avocados were once a luxury food. They were reserved for the tables of royalty or wealthy people. They are now enjoyed around the world, by people from all walks of life.

Avocados have the highest fiber content of any fruit. They contain vitamins, potassium, magnesium, and folate.

Avocados ripen quicker, when stored in a paper bag, with an apple or banana. This is due to the ethylene gas, released by the apple or banana. To tell if it is ripe, hold it in the palm of your hand and gently squeeze. It is not ripe, if it is very hard. It is overripe, if it is squishy. If it feels like butter, it is perfectly ripe.

Avocados are also known as”alligator pears.” This is due to its alligator skin texture and pear shape. It has a bumpy, greenish appearance.

Retailers can request avocados from several stages of ripeness. Stage five is tender enough to be ready for guacamole. Whereas, stage four is considered “slice-ready.”
