From Zion National Park in the south to Snowbasin up north, Utah has plenty of places to get away. Whether you want to get away with the family for spring break or just want to relax for the weekend, there are plenty of places that will give you what you want.
However, sometimes you might just be looking for something to do for one day. Luckily, Utah also offers plenty of activities close to Salt Lake City.
Here are four day trips within 30 minutes of Salt Lake City that you and the kids will love. And what’s even better? The most it will cost you is two dollars.
1. Hill Air Force Museum
Hill Aerospace is located just south of Ogden and about 30 minutes north of Salt Lake City Utah. It is located on Hill Air Force Base and has been around since 1981. The museum hosts about 180,000 visitors every year and is home to around 90 different aircraft. The museum is open between 9 AM and 4:30 PM every Tuesday through Saturday, but is closed on Sundays and Mondays. It’s hard to believe that this attraction is free!
2. Temple Square Utah is well-known as being home to the headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the history and culture of the religion can be seen in downtown Salt Lake City at Temple Square. Whether you are a member of the Mormon religion or not, Temple Square is a beautiful oasis in the middle of a bustling downtown.
3. Mill Creek Canyon One of the most beautiful canyons in Salt Lake, Mill Creek Canyon is a great getaway just to the east of Salt Lake City located just miles from the University of Utah. Depending on when you visit the canyon, you can participate in all sorts of outdoor activities at Mill Creek Canyon, such as hiking and mountain biking. And if you visit in the fall when the leaves are changing colors, you’ll be mesmerized by the views. The cost is $2 per car to drive up the canyon.
4. State Capitol One of the most prominent landmarks in the state for decades has been the State Capitol. Built in 1916 and renovated extensively between 2004 and 2008, the capitol building is a great place to take a tour with the kids. You can either take guided tours during the week between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM or do a self-guided tour when the building is open.
