Here are the top eight tips for throwing a St. Patrick’s Day party.
1. Decide the age limit of the party.
It’s not uncommon for there to be a lot of drinking at St. Patrick’s Day parties, so decide if you want to enforce an age limit for the party or not. This will also determine what should and shouldn’t be served.
2. Make it fun!
This should be a fun party. From the food to the decor make it happy and joyous. Now’s the time to break out all the silly decorations and party hats. Party City has a great selection of party goods that can help make your party a success.
3. Have a signature drink.
If you are opting for an adult party, create a signature drink that’s made out of Bailey’s Irish Cream. This is a nice festive drink that is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day. If you are having an all ages party mint smoothies are a great choice. The signature drink should be in addition to other drinks.
4. Ask guests to bring something.
Feel free to ask guests to either bring their favorite drink or food dish. This will help you out cost-wise and will give everyone a chance to try different things. You may ask everyone to bring a specific dish, such as specifically an appetizer or treat, and then showcase all the different dishes from everyone on one table.
5. Wear green and ask guests to wear green.
For fun you can tell all your guests they will only be admitted to the party if they wear green. This will keep the party very festive. Have green party hats or buttons to provide to guests who “accidentally” forgot to wear green to ensure no one is left out.
6. Have “Irish” activities.
Have a couple activities planned for the party that are “Irish” related. This may include watching an Irish related film, such as the Boondock Saints or Leap Year, or have party games with an Irish theme set up. For an example of party games you could easily do a “Pin the Pot of Gold on the Rainbow” or bob for green apples. The whole point is to separate this party from a normal house party by embracing the holiday it’s intended to be for.
7. Light up the party with music.
You can listen to Irish inspired punk-rock bands like Flogging Molly or the Dropkick Murphey’s to lighten up the party. Both of these bands play fun music that will get any party goer get up on their feet.
8. Have a costume contest.
Another activity you may want to have at your party is a costume contest. Have your guests dress up in their best “St. Patrick’s Day Inspired Costume.” Have a prize for the winner so more of your guests are more inclined to participate.
