Releasing Fall, 2014, iOS 8 will be the biggest update in iOS history, next to iOS 7. It will feature a health app, a new people feature, a new notification feature and some other cool developer only stuff. Let’s take a look at five cool new features in iOS 8.
1. A new keyboard
This will be a game changer. The new smart, predictive keyboard, according to Apple, will make you type faster than ever before. It’ll read your conversation you are having, and then predict words that you will reply with. Apple gave an interesting example. The text message that the user received was “Do you want to get dinner or see a movie?” and before the user even begun typing, suggestions for the words dinner or movie popped up. Very cool.
2. New photo editing options
You can now professionally edit your photos inside the photo app. The new smart settings on the photo app will change the color, saturation and more all from the app. So, for example, you got a nice photo but it’s a little too dark, you can raise the brightness and color up, and iOS 8 will do the rest for you.
A feature that many have asked for since the introduction of the Notification Center, 3 rd party apps can now install widgets to your phone. An example Apple showed off was the ESPN Sports Center widget, which showed the scores of a game currently going on. The possibilities for widgets are endless, and it’ll be exciting to see what other cool ideas developers think of.
4. User-interactive notifications
When you receive text message, you have to click the notification, open the iMessage app, and then type your reply. With the new notification system, you can now reply to texts without leaving the current screen you’re on. This is a huge new feature in iOS 8, and I know will personally save me a ton of time.
5. People in multi-tasking
When you double click the home button to bring up multi-tasking, you will now see pictures of the people you interact with the most. If you click on one of the pictures, you can choose to message, call or FaceTime them. This is an awesome feature, as it’ll save you time if you text one or more people a day regularly.
