From smartphone watches to tablet and touch-screen televisions, there are a lot of different tech products on the market. Here are the top 10 most ridiculous tech products of today.
1. Smartphone watches
These are “phones” that are worn on the wrist. These are ridiculous because it really shows that you can not spend any amount of time away from your phone.
Specifically, the iPad is ridiculous because it’s insanely overpriced for what you get. The thing can be said about a lot of Apple products though. It’s a tablet that comes with less power than comparable tablets and costs at least twice as much.
3. Stand-alone Android gaming systems.
These are video game systems that only play Android games. These are ridiculous, because you can play the same exact games on a phone or tablet which most people have. Buying a stand-alone system just to play these games just seems like a waste of money.
4. GPS devices.
Global Positioning System (GPS) devices are ridiculous in a world where most cell phones automatically have GPS capabilities. The only reason why you would ever want or need a stand-alone GPS device is if you are going somewhere where your cell phone can’t get any service.
5. Alarm clocks.
Another tech device that has been replaced by cell phones. Your cell phone is your all-in-one device that can do many things. Being an alarm clock is one of those things. You don’t need a stand-alone alarm clock anymore.
Chromebooks look like laptops but act like tablets. Chromebooks are ridiculous because they can only be used with an internet connection, do not have a CD/DVD drive, and function like a smartphone. You can’t run any computer programs or do anything on it except use apps and the web browser. For the price you might as well either get a tablet or spend a little bit more to get a full functioning laptop.
7. Google Glass.
Just like smartphone watches, the Google Glass shows that you can’t step away from a computer for any length of time. Specifically, the Google Glass is a wearable computer. It is worn like glasses but looks quite ridiculous. This product is ridiculous because it is just asking for trouble. Is it even safe to drive while wearing it? What about walking down the street? Will wearing something worth almost $2,000 on your head attract possible thieves?
8. Beats headphones.
Another status symbol like Apple are the Beats headphones. They are designed and endorsed by Dr. Dre which can make a lot of people want to run out and get them. There have been multiple robberies reported revolving around these headphones which really isn’t too much of a surprise given their high price tag.
9. 3D anything.
For awhile now there have been a steady stream of 3D movies being showcased in movie theaters and for home viewing. It’s all become quite ridiculous. For home viewing you need a 3D television, a 3D DVD or Blu-Ray player, the movie itself in 3D, and in some cases 3D glasses. This is all added extra cost that has become quite ridiculous. Do we really need to see movies in 3D to enjoy it? Could it be 3D has been pushed out by movie companies so us as consumers have to spend more money?
You’re probably wondering why smartphones would be on this list given that most people have them and they are considered to be quite useful. Well, the reason why smartphones are ridiculous is because there’s always the “next big thing” coming along. You could buy the top of the line, newest, and best smartphone on the market but once you do it won’t be too long after that the “better” model is released. Just look at Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Galaxy phones for an example. There are so many different models it’s hard to keep track which one’s the newest and “best.” It’s all quite ridiculous.
