The most important decade for a women’s life is their 40s. Life goes through a lot of changes. If you haven’t started taking special care of yourself, it is time you start.

Osteoporosis or thinning bones is a great risk for women in their 40s. It causes bones to become so weak and brittle that a fall or even bending over may have risk of a fracture. Proper weight-bearing exercises and a healthy calcium containing diet can help prevent osteoporosis.
2. Cervical Cancer:
One of the greatest threats for women in 40s is cervical cancer. In 2011, there were an estimated 249,632 women living with cervical cancer. It can be treated well if detected in an early stage. Women in 40s should run a Pap smear test once a year to detect changes in their cervical cells before they turn in to bigger problems.
3. Breast Cancer:
The majority of breast cancer (80%) occurs in women at the age of 50. So, the risk increases after the age of 40. Monthly self-examination and annual mammogram help to detect breast cancer at an early stage which is completely curable.
Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in United States. The risk of diabetes increases in women after 40 due to the change in hormones and therefore increasing weight. Regular exercise and proper diet may help prevent diabetes. Glucose test should also be taken regularly.
5. Blood Pressure:
High blood pressure in women in 40s may lead to stroke, heart attack and heat diseases. Maintained diet and physical activities mitigate the risks of that.
6. Heart disease:
Sometimes heart disease is called a “men’s diseases”, but 1 in every 4 female death in Unites States is caused by heart disease. Women in 40s should have a healthy lifestyle, avoid smoking and check cholesterol and blood pressure regularly to keep a healthy heart.
Menopause generally occurs after 40s with all its severe symptoms caused by hormonal fluctuations including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, urinary tract infections, insomnia and many more. Proper medical guidance should be followed.
8. Unintended Pregnancy:
Unintended pregnancy at 40s has several health risks and can also cause severe hormonal imbalance. Unintended pregnancy rate is easy controlled by using birth control systems.
9. Anxiety and Depression:
Taking care of mental health is very important for women at 40s. Different types of struggle of career, family and social life makes women stress and to much depressed. Spending a quality time just doing favorite activity will prove charming.
10. Increased Weight:
Women at this age are affected by falling levels of hormones, which alter the distribution of fat around the buttocks, upper thighs and abdomen. Vegetables and fruit based diet is a great solution.
