Plastic milk cartons can be taken to a recycling center to be melted down and made into other useful products. This is a good way to take care of plastic milk cartons but there are also good uses for plastic milk cartons then just taking them to a recycling center.
A half gallon plastic milk carton can make a good birdhouse. Just take the plastic milk carton and cut a hole into it for the size bird you want to accommodate. Hang the birdhouse in a shade tree by the handle.
You can make a great bird seed feeder with a empty plastic milk carton. Cut a hole in the side about as big as a tennis ball and put bird seed in the feeder. Then hang it where the birds will find it.
Make a plastic milk carton into a scoop. Cut the bottom off the milk carton and use the handle as a holder when you dip it. Keep the lid on the milk carton if you need it for liquid.
Make an anchor for a boat with a plastic milk carton. Fill the carton with sand or small gravel and glue the cap on the plastic milk carton. Tie a rope to the handle and you have a nifty small boat anchor that you can tie to your boat and slip in the water when needed.
