Most in ground swimming pools have a vinyl cover that is used during the winter. This covers your pool to protect it but also keeps someone from falling into the pool and getting hurt. These can cost over $2,000 to replace so you will want to do everything that you can to make your cover last for a long time. Here are some great tips to keep your vinyl cover around as long as possible.
You will not use this cover at all during the summer. Make sure you put it away and don’t leave it out in the weather. This will keep it from being damaged from the weather and also keep it from having the hot sun baking down on it all the time. You can put it inside or you can roll it up and place it somewhere like a big trash can.
If you get holes in your cover, don’t assume that it needs thrown out. You can simply take it to a vinyl repair shop to get it fixed. These stores repair boat covers, tents and will also repair your pool cover. Mine had several small holes and it cost under $40 to get it fixed. They also sell vinyl repair kits at the store but I have not tried these myself.
If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow or rain, you will want to make sure you have a sump pump for your cover. They make these for pool covers and they will come on as soon as the water gets to a certain height on the cover. They are around $250 but can help your cover from ending up with too much weight on it.
These tips will not keep you from needing to purchase a new cover forever but it can make yours last a few years longer. If you have any other tips, share them in the comments below.
