A hungry varmint can do a lot of damage to a garden in short order. For example raccoon’s love to take one bite out of each cob of corn you are growing. Here are some ideas to help keep your garden critter free.
A high fence is a great way to keep all animals out of the garden. It needs to be a good high fence of about 8 feet to keep the deer out. Deer can jump high and if you are growing some of their favorite food they will jump in and help themselves to your garden goodies. A fence will also keep out rabbits and raccoon’s.
Build a scarecrow and place it in the center of the garden. Put some smelly human clothes on the scarecrow so the animals get a good whiff of human. That will keep them away for awhile but you will need to move the scarecrow around to keep the animals guessing if it is a real human or not.
Place a big plastic owl looking into your garden. Get one with big glowing eyes and it will keep all kinds of pests out of the garden. The last thing a rabbit wants to run into is a big owl. The rabbits will look at the plastic owl and stay away. You will need to move the owl around once in awhile so the rabbits will think it is alive. A big plastic hawk can do that same thing as a owl.
Place blood around your garden. Pour some blood into a bucket of water and pour it around the outside of the garden. This will keep many pests away but it will wash away when it rains so you will need to redo it.
Marigolds are a smelly flower and most animals do not like the smell. Plant marigolds around the outside edge of your garden and the animals will go someplace else to eat.
When you get a haircut take the trimmings and place those around the outside edge of the garden animals do not like the smell of human and they will stay away.
Keeping critters out of a garden can be a challenge. It is hard to keep hungry animals from eating fresh produce.
