As soon as I decided to move out of my first apartment I was on the hunt. I thought finding a new place to call home would be easy. After all, I found my old apartment in less than a week! But as I would soon discover, it was not. Touring apartment after apartment complex quickly grew tiring and tedious. I’m still on the hunt, but I’ve compiled three tips for those who are just starting the search.
1. Think Outside the Box
Many people just stick to using the ol’ internet search engine to find apartments. But there are plenty of high quality apartments that don’t advertise online. Be creative! Local newspapers often have classified ads for apartments and homes. If you live close to where you’re moving drive around and search for apartments with your own eyes! Just have a buddy with you to write down the name and number of the apartment complex. You can even search through Craigslist for apartments. Just be prepared to sift through a lot of junk.
2. Check to See if your Apartment Complex Manages Properties Elsewhere
Sometimes (especially if you live in a large community) the company that owns your apartment has properties elsewhere. For instance my apartment complex has residences all across the US!
3. Don’t Get Frustrated
It can be exhausting looking for an apartment. My advice, don’t give up! Keep looking until you find your dream home!
