Memorial Day is a holiday that is celebrated all over America, however it is not one that a lot of people look forward to and plan as much as other holidays. Memorial Day might not involve fun costumes, or the giving of gifts, but that does not mean that it can’t be used as an excuse to get together with your family and have some fun.
Fireworks are a very common festivity on Memorial Day. They provide a festive viewing spectacular for you, your family, and friends. However there are a couple downsides to fireworks. The first thing is, they have to be done at night, which means they are always the conclusion to a day together, also they have to be done late at night, so the members of your little reunion who have to work the next day might not want to stay for them. Another big problem is their legality. Different places have different rules for fireworks. You always want to check your local laws to make sure you will not be violating any. Yet another reason is they are dangerous and if not treated with respect could damage or even kill anyone to close to them, or start a forest fire.
Yard games are always fun, and can bring your family together with past generations. Games like bean bag toss or lawn darts have been enjoyed for years, and they can bring up feelings from the past that are very enjoyable, as well as make new memories for the future. However teenagers and many other members of your family and friends may view them as something childish and not be willing to play, so plan accordingly.
The most common event that happens on Memorial Day is an outdoor cookout. Usually using a charcoal or propane gas grill. However other grills such as traditional fire pit barbeques or wood grilling tripods can make for an even greater and more traditional time when grilling. Most of your guests will love to sit around the fire with a cold drink, so always keep a cooler full of ice on hand ready to put drinks in for your guests.
Whatever you choose to do on Memorial Day, remember not to take it seriously. Just have fun and do anything that comes to mind that you think might be appropriate. As long as people are having fun, you can not be going all wrong.
