If you find that you are sick and have to go to work it can be a horrible thing. Being sick is never fun, however being ill at work is much worse since you will have to be working instead of lying down and drinking fluids. There are some things you can do to alleviate the symptoms however, and possibly get better before the next day comes along.
The first thing you should do before showing up at work sick is call your boss and tell them about their plight. They will not be happy with this, and would probably much rather sweep the fact that you are ill under the rug, but it’s better for society if you tell them. Sometimes your boss will let you stay home since they do not want to infect a larger population with your sickness. This is very good for society, and should be the way things are, however do not ask them for the day off, as it could lead to your employment being terminated. Your employer will not admit that that is the reason why they are terminating your employment. However that will not stop them from noticing other things and fabricating a reason.
Telling your boss about your problem will sometimes let them allow you to make compensations such as wearing a sweater or bringing a water bottle, as well as allowing you to take more bathroom breaks. Sometimes however they might make you wear a contagion mask, which is uncomfortable, but prevents other people from getting sick.
If you must come to work, bring water with you and refill it as much as possible. It can sometimes get a little scary this way since you probably won’t be getting enough bathroom breaks, but gently sipping water will relieve soar throats and help flush toxins from your system. Also since it flushes toxins away it can help clear up stuffy head problems and congestion.
You will want to wear warm clothing to your job, at least if it is a cool day out, however, if you find yourself getting to warm you will have to take off your extra sweater before you get cold.
One very important thing you should take with you is mentholated cough drops as they will help keep your sinuses clear and alleviate symptoms.
Above all else take it easy while you are working, do not be a hero as over exhausting yourself could leave you even sicker then you were before. It will not be easy to go through a work day with a cold, but you can do it.
