If you love movies, or just want to move some of your VHS, DVD, or Blue ray clutter to a more compact space, there are a couple of things you can do to economically put those Movies in a neat, tidy accessible, yet not in the way location.
If you still have VHS tapes you wish to keep, you can probably find VHS racks at your local thrift store, or garage sales. They will probably be very inexpensive as VHS tapes have lost a lot of their value and are rarely still being collected. However these VHS racks may not accept DVD and blue rays, or if they do they are not very efficient at storing them. You might be able to find a couple racks that are very acceptable, especially if your DVD collection is not to extensive.
Another choice is compact disc racks, but these will only hold DVDs or Blue ray discs, and sometimes not even then. They are very small and easy to store and put away, but also can hide the labels on the DVDs making it hard to decide on what movie to watch, or show off your collection.
A third choice it to look for DVD racks. They will also not hold your VHS tapes, but they will show off the spines of your DVDs and Blue rays. This will allow for quick browsing. DVD Racks are a lot harder to find at thrift stores and Garage sales as most people who have purchased them are still currently using them to store their DVD collections.
You can build your own DVD racks simply and easily by buying 2×4 boards from your local hardware store and constructing your own, if you elect this option make sure you leave room for the taller cardboard backed DVDs from the past. If you do not you may regret it in the future.
The easiest and best way to store your DVDs and other media is to look for old book cases. Old book cases and racks can be found at your local thrift stores and Garage sales. These will allow you to store all of your media, even your books. If the shelves are to close together or to far apart you can usually adjust them. Look for pegs and holes, if the shelf has them, you can certainly adjust the height of the shelves. What’s great about these is usually they look good enough to keep out in your living room where they are handy.
