Shoes are always on the floor and they can get very dirty. Sometimes a favorite pair needs a good cleaning or a pair that you just spent a lot of money on gets into some mud. You can clean dirty shoes many ways depending on what the shoes are made of.
Leather shoes can be cleaned with leather shoe cleaner that you can get where leather shoes are sold. But you can also clean leather other ways. If the shoes are work shoes that get a lot of hard treatment you can use soap and water to clean them. Use a soft cloth and get it wet. Then put soap on it and rub the shoes where they are dirty. You may need to rinse the cloth and repeat depending on how dirty the shoes are. Then after you have washed the shoes you should rinse them and let them dry. Once the shoes are dry you may need to reapply shoe oil to keep the shoes supple and waterproof.
You can use just a moist cloth to clean up a spot on any shoe. Test the shoe in a location that is not noticeable to see if the shoe may be damaged by water.
Rubber shoes like garden shoes can be cleaned very easy. Wash them with a soft brush and some soap and water. Then let them dry.
Sandals can get sandy and no matter what they are made of if they are full of sand they are not worth wearing. You can clean them by rinsing them in water and letting them dry off. Even leather sandals can get a short rinse to clean them.
Patient leather shoes are shiny so they repel dirt but they can get scuffed up. You can use soap and water and rub the scuff until it disappears. If soap and water do not work you can try a cloth with a small spot of vegetable oil on it. Rub the scuff with the oil and see if that takes the scuff off.
Cloth or canvas shoes can be thrown in the washing machine along with like colored clothes. They usually come out looking pretty good but you may need to reshape them by wearing them on your feet so don’t be alarmed if they come out of the washer somewhat miss shapened. Most shoes have waterproof glue that will not come apart in a washing machine.
