I recently started my own blog, and there were some mistakes made early on that I wish someone would have told me about. Here are just a few things I’ve learned in my journey so far.
Make It Pretty
If you can pay for a good theme, or find a good base theme that you can turn into something awesome, do so! A blog with an original design will stick out more and keep readers coming back. Even if the content of the blog is great, a bad design is a major turn off.
Don’t Monetize Too Early
If you bombard the blog with ads and affiliate links, your readers aren’t going to take you seriously. Start out with just one way to monetize at first, and introduce other ads or products as the audience grows.
It’s Okay To Have More Than One Niche.
A blog stuck on just one topic is great, but readers might not subscribe if the topics are constantly the same. Don’t be afraid to talk about yourself and create some categories. Just keep it fresh and don’t make too many articles on just one subject.
Pictures Make Everything Better
And by everything, I mean posts, the sidebar, ads… Just don’t overdo it. A blog with too many words or too many pictures is a little too much and hard on the eyes.
