Recycling plastic is an issue that is always full of opposition. Many people think we should not use it at all. Others say as long as it is properly recycled that it is not a problem and still others think there are plenty of resources and it is silly to worry about throwing plastic away. Whatever your view is plastic is in use and it would be hard to get rid of it completely so recycle it properly and that is the best you can do.
Instead of recycling your plastic items you may be able to reuse them. That is truly the best way to recycle plastic. Use plastic bottles for wind vanes, water containers and food storage. There are too many uses for an old plastic bottle to list but you can use your imagination and find uses for them.
You can take them to a recycling center where they are taken and melted down to make many useful items from fabrics to walkways. I have seen and used many very nice plastic walkways that are great since they do not rot, they are made of recycled material and they can take a lot of abuse. Recycled plastic can be made into tables, furniture and planters. These items are truly very useful and can be a great way to use recycled plastic.
Many people can criticize plastic but it has made the world a safer place. Kids and older people can pick up a plastic glass without worrying about dropping it and cutting themselves. The medical field uses plastic all the time to help keep people from getting germs that can cause infections. Plastic can be used by the medical profession once and then thrown away keeping the world a little safer and cleaner. But plastic is also used way too much since other materials can be used for many things instead of plastic.
You can cut down on your use of plastic by buying and using items that can be used instead of plastic. Plastic wrap for instance can be replaced with wax paper. Wax paper is terribly underrated it works great and I would like to see more of it being used. Plastic food storage can be replaced by stoneware or glass but then again you need to worry about dropping and breaking it. Plastic shoes can be replaced with leather, I really don’t see any need for plastic shoes.
