It is easy to go to a travel agent and have them plan a trip for you but planning the trip yourself can be part of the fun. It is exciting to look for interesting places to see and things to do along the way.
The first thing you need to do is decide where you want to go. How far are you going to go and how many days will you be gone. Find a place to stay at your farthest destination first. Decide where you will be on what days and fill in the rest.
Then take a look at all the interesting places you want to stop at along the way there and back. Take a look at the museums, restaurants and other points of interest you want to stop at and plan when you will be there to see it and how long you will need to see it.
You will then have an idea of where you will need to stay along the way. Decide where you want to stay and when and then look for places to spend the night.
You will need to decide what kind of lodging you will need to stay at. You could look for bed and breakfasts, motels, hotels, camping or possibly stay with friends. You will need to make reservations at the places you will want to stay. Look for places to eat that you might enjoy and research the prices.
You will need to figure out the prices of meals, rooms, places of interest and gas. You need to get an idea of what you will be spending on this trip so you have enough money to go. If you find that your planned trip is too expensive you may be able to look for less expensive options along the way. You may be able to find a less expensive motel or a less expensive restaurant to eat at. Or maybe you can have a sandwich in a park to save money instead of eating at a restaurant.
Decide on what clothes you need to take with you and what you want to wear. Packing lightly might be an advantage since when you are on vacation you will be carrying all your belongings with you. The less you take the less you will be hauling around from place to place.
Planning a trip can be almost as much fun as taking the trip.
