Recently, I had the chance to work with a client who didn’t want color or noticeable makeup-she wanted a minimalist look. In the past, the only thing I could offer her was some foundation makeup and brown mascara but today there is so much more! If you like a more natural makeup but don’t want to show imperfections in your skin, you have options. Put the focus on bright, fresh skin and subtle stained lips. I can show you how to do it.
Start with a Bright Complexion
If you want to hide the fact that you are wearing foundation you’ll have to pay attention to your skin. Nothing ruins this smooth look than patchy foundation makeup. I recommend that you start with clean, moisturized skin. Hide red bumps like pimples with green or yellow based concealers. Dab and tap, dab and tap! Now, brush on mineral powder foundation. It is soothing to the skin and it won’t clog up pores. It is important that you wear the right color foundation. If you go too dark or too light, you won’t be able to achieve a minimalist look. For the cheeks, I prefer cream blush in light, subtle colors. Remember that less is more so go light.
Pay Attention to Eye Makeup
Here’s where you could give the whole thing away-with harsh eyeliner. Not only will everyone know you are wearing makeup but you could look older too. Instead of black which is always noticeable, reach for a soft kohl pencil in brown or gray. Line the top of the lashes but skip the bottom. Now finish with one coat of brown mascara. Do curl your lashes first. If you want to make the eyes look wider, roll on white eyeliner to the inner eyes. (Remember-go light!)
Perfectly Natural Lips
Line your clean lips with neutral lip liner. Touch the lips with tinted balm, I prefer caramel, peach or pink-whatever color looks more natural on my client. Want to fatten up the look of your lips without extra makeup? Dab the center of the lower lip with petroleum jelly. Blot to remove the excess product.
This is such a pretty look for photographs and daytime events. Try minimal makeup!
