It is raining out and you need to go outside. This can be difficult, especially if you have to be all dressed up. If it is warm out and it doesn’t matter if you get wet, you can just go out and enjoy the feel of rain on your skin, but most of the time this is not the case. It was nice to be a carefree kid who could spend a few minutes running and splashing around in the rain.
Umbrellas were very tacky when I was growing up. We would not use one for anything but now they are a conversation piece and can be very trendy. Umbrellas are great to walk down the street with in a mild rain and you will stay relatively dry. The splashes that are created as you walk may cause your legs and feet to get somewhat wet but if you do not have far to go you will stay relatively dry.
Rain coats provide good protection on a rainy day. Probably better then an umbrella depending on what the rain coat is made of. A good rubber rain coat will keep you very dry except for your legs and feet. If you wear rubbers on your feet then you can stay very dry in the rain.
Rain ponchos are made of plastic and can keep you relatively dry. These are inexpensive and are great to keep in your car for those times when you are caught in an unexpected rain. Rain ponchos come in a very small bag that can be put in your pocket or purse. Many times people just toss out a rain poncho after it has been used because they can be difficult to dry and fold back up into the small bag. I have found rain ponchos to be very nice to have along with you when you are at an outdoor museum or a theme park. They are small and easy to carry so you can be ready to stay dry if it starts to rain.
Since rain ponchos are small, I like to keep one in my car so I can put it on when I am caught in the rain. The poncho does not take up much room and is nice to have available at all times. When I am done wearing the plastic poncho I spread it out to dry. When it is dry I fold it back up very small and put it back into the small bag it came in.
