Yellowstone National Park has many great places to hike and some of these hiking trails also have geyser or thermal action along the trails so see.
But looking at the geysers and other thermal activity is all you should do since the water can be very hot and it is prohibited to do anything more then just look.
Geysers and thermal water can burn very badly yet look very friendly with all the pretty colors and clear water that they are made of. The geysers and thermal areas need to remain pretty so everyone can enjoy them. It is against the law to throw anything into them. Never throw anything in thermal waters. If you have on a hat that could be blown off your head in the wind make sure you hold onto your hat as you hike the trails. I have seen many hats blow off heads and end up in hot thermal water where the hat cannot be retrieved. Children’s toys have also ended up in the hot waters and there is probably a child crying from each and every toy that has ended up in hot water. Do not liter or throw anything in the thermal waters of Yellowstone National Park.
Dogs are great fun and they are nice companions but they do not belong on thermal trials or any trial in Yellowstone. It is much too dangerous for dogs to go on the trails. In thermal areas dogs have jumped into the hot water and died from the burns they received from doing so. Also the wild animals can be a problem for the dogs since the dog will want to chase the animals like bison, bears and moose. Most dogs have not had any experience with these types of animals and they are a curiosity for them.
Children are also a problem in thermal water areas of the park. They may want to feel the water and play in it. But thermal water is nothing to play in. Yet children should see the magic of Yellowstone’s thermal areas. Take your kids but hold onto their hands tightly. You never know when they may get the desire to get into the hot water. Also explain to the children about the hot water and how it is dangerous to touch because it can burn.
Yellowstone National Park is a great place to visit but it can also be dangerous. As you enter the park you will get a brochure telling you about some of the park and how you should act in it. Make sure you read the cautions that should be followed in the park.
