Grilled hot dogs are a great meal on a hot summer day. Grill up some sausages and place them on a bed of sauerkraut for a great German meal. Make up some brats and have them on a bun with mustard. These are all good fun food to eat but they can be hard to grill because they are able to roll off of the grill so easy. Here are some grilling tips to keep your tubular food from rolling off of the grill and into the fire.
Use a metal tong to turn them over instead of using a spatula. You have more control with a metal tong then with a flat spatula. You can grip the rolling food and keep more control as you turn them.
Place the hot dog or brat along with the parallel lines of the grill instead of on top of the wires. Place them so that they sit in-between the grill wires instead of across on top of them. If they are stuck in-between the wires they can not roll away but you must be sure that the tubular food is thick enough not to fall through the wires into the fire. Then use a tong to flip them instead of a spatula for more control.
Use a long handle big fork to flip your hot dogs. Pierce the meat and place it back onto the grill with the fork. Keep control of the meat as you flip it so it does not get away and use the wires of the grill for control as you flip it.
You can buy a wire holding grill where there are 2 grills that hold tight together. Place the rolling food in-between the wires and then when they are ready you flip the entire grill of food instead of just one item.
You can also buy a metal ring or square that will hold the food onto the grill and won’t let it roll away. The metal ring sits on top of the grill and it is heavy so the food can’t roll off of the grill. the food cooks inside the metal ring right on top of the grill.
Make a little tray of aluminum foil with sides and place that on the grill. Then put the food into the aluminum foil tray to cook it. The tray will hold the food in place as it is cooking.
Grilling food is fun and easy but you need to be patient as you flip it or the tubular foods can get away and roll off the grill.
