It is easy to overeat at a buffet. One way to prevent it is to skip going to all buffets which can be a smart way to stay on a diet. But sometimes you may find that it is impossible to miss a buffet like when you go to a graduation party. Most graduation parties have a buffet filled with food. Here are some ideas to help you eat smart.
Many sugary drinks and alcoholic beverages are available at buffets. Instead of having one of those drinks pick water as your drink of choice and hold it in your dominant hand so that you have less ability to grab something and eat it.
Take a good look at the food that is offered before you take any. Then make some wise decisions about what you want to eat. Stay away from fattening foods and take the less fattening foods. Allow yourself to take only one or two main foods and fill the rest of your plate with vegetables and fruits. Leave a space on your plate that you can not put any food on and you will have less to eat.
If you have taken something and you do not like it after you have tried it do not finish it. Just because it is on your plate does not mean you have to eat it. Do not feel ashamed for not eating something that you do not like. It is alright not to eat something even if the rest of the people around you think you should eat it. Don’t worry about what other people think so much.
Only allow yourself to take a spoonful of any one item on the buffet and you will eat less. And don’t go up for seconds. If you find something that you would really like to eat more of eat it slowly in small bites and it will last longer.
Never go to a party hungry. You may find that you end up eating more when you go to a party hungry. Have a snack before you get to the party and you will tend to eat less.
Stay away from the desert area. There are yummy sweets to eat in many forms but you need to tell yourself that you do not need any of them. If you stay away from sugar long enough it starts to taste bad to your taste buds. Keep near the fruits if you desire a treat to eat.
