Hybrid is the group boss of Special Operation 18 in Marvel: Avengers Alliance. He is by far the most difficult group so far released in the game. Like many previous group bosses, he has five different forms, one of each class. Each form has different powers and special abilities, making each an individual challenge. The bruiser form is difficult because it almost entirely ignores the advantage that blasters have against it. The following tips will help you defeat the bruiser hybrid group boss in Marvel: Avengers Alliance.
Stacks – Every single attack that Hybrid uses applies up to three stacks of one of three status effects: bleeding, pain, or withered. But, Hybrid’s weakness causes him to apply fewer stacks when hit by a fire or sonic attack. Hit him enough times and you can cancel all of the stacks that Hybrid applies. This is particularly important for the bleeding stacks because two of his attacks have the hemorrhaging attack special ability. It is rather easy to include allies that deal fire damage, so make sure at least one of your allies does. If you avoid fire damage altogether, you either want allies that are immune to bleeding or allies that can remove status effects.
Critical Hits – Blasters are considerably weaker than normal against Hybrid, because only sonic attacks can score a critical hit. The only blaster you can include on your team that will score critical hits is your agent equipped with the Sonic Knife, Sonic Sword, or Supersonic Sword. You should equip your agent this way because there is absolutely no downside to doing so and it will greatly increase the damage you deal.
Immobilized – Every single attack that the bruiser variant of Hybrid uses is a melee attack. If you can immobilize him, it is possible that he won’t attack at all on his turns. He has a chance to shake off status effects every turn, but Horseman of Pestilence can prevent him from removing effects. If you don’t own Pestilence, it is still worth trying just to limit his ability to attack. Only a few heroes immobilize. If you don’t own one that does, you can also try to use Horseman of Famine who can apply a status that may simulate immobilize.
Single Melee Target Attacks – Every single attack that Hybrid makes is a single target attack. This makes bodyguards especially effective against him. Wonder Man, in particular, is a good choice because he is immune to bleeding, which greatly reduces the damage that Hybrid can deal. Alternatively, there is equipment which always counters or protects against single target attacks or against melee attacks. Use this equipment or a bodyguard hero to allow you to bring more effective offensive characters that would normally be too flimsy for this battle.
Heroes – Even though they can’t score critical hits, blasters are still slightly optimal because they take reduced damage from Hybrid. Human Torch and Sunfire are both good options because they have all fire attacks. The former is better because he also counters attacks with burning and has a chance to avoid attacks altogether. A blaster variant of Cyclops also works well because he can give a counterattack to your entire team and he can apply the flanked status effect. Finally, you might want to try Cable because he can grant an extra action to an ally, like your agent, that can remove status effects from your team.
