Pellet stoves are a nice way to heat an area. You use tiny wood pellets that are slowly fed into a small fire that is blown with a fan to heat the area. It is a very efficient way to heat since very little heat goes up the chimney. Most of the heat is put right out into the room.
Pellet stoves have a hopper that you put the small wood pellets into. Then the pellets fall from the hopper into the fire. On some stoves the hopper does not hold an entire bag of pellets. If the hopper of the stove is too small for your needs you can get an additional larger hopper that attaches to the stove and you can put more pellets into it.
Keeping your burning area of the pellet stove is important for the best results. You should clean the burn area at least once a day. It does not take long to clean out and your fire can resume in a matter of a few minutes. Clean any glass that may be on the stove so you can watch your fire at the time you clean the burning area. Always take out any ashes that accumulate every time you clean the burn pot.
Use good quality pellets in your pellet stove. They burn better and create more heat and less ash as they burn. More importantly is better pellets will burn cleaner keeping your stove and chimney cleaner as they burn. Cheap wood pellet create a lot of creosote which can cause a fire to start in the chimney and burn area of the stove where a fire does not belong.
Every year take some time on a warm day when you don’t need a fire to clean out the stove real well including the chimney area. Take the stove apart if you need to and get into all the hidden areas.
The outside of the pellet stove should be cleaned when ever needed. It can accumulate dust and dirt making the stove look dingy. Vacuum off the dust and pellets that have dropped under the stove and in all the nooks and crannies. A clean stove will work better and look nicer then a dirty stove.
Do not leave your pellet stove burning unattended. It is a safe way to heat with wood but it is still a fire that needs attention to be sure it is burning safetly.
