With Saint Patrick’s Day just around the corner, many of us are planning for a special party at our homes or attending someone else’s party. Whatever your party plans are for this day, there are some things you need to know. Below there are some interesting things to have and do at your party to make it the best Saint Patrick’s Day party ever.
If you are over 21, which many Saint Patty’s Day celebrators are, do not forget the beer. As a (part) Irish lass, I know that beer, and alcohol for that matter, is an integral part of the heritage. What is a celebration without the beer? For those of you who aren’t partial to beer, there are plenty of cool recipes online for green-colored cocktails, mostly using green Crème de Menthe. Whatever you choose, don’t forget it!
Irish fare isn’t terribly hard to cook. All you really need is some meat, potatoes, and some sort of stew vegetables. Online, I like allrecipes.com, you can find all sorts of recipes of Irish intent. One of my favorites is, of course, corned beef and cabbage. You can even go a step easier and just throw all of the aforementioned ingredients into a slow cooker overnight. Simple and easy!
Some of us may just want to sit an reminisce with our friends at parties. Others need a bit more stimulation. For those, there are tons of St. Patrick’s themed activities to do. You can play pin the tail (or buckle) on the leprechaun. You can go bobbing for green apples in green water. You can even set up a “Pot-o-gold” hunt in your house or backyard. Just fill the pot with gold coin candies or chocolate gold coins. They are super easy to set up, and they are loads of fun.
No matter what you choose to have and do at your Saint Patrick’s day party just remember to enjoy the company of your friends. End the night on a happy note with on last Irish toast. You can search for a few on the internet, but my favorite is:
“May your neighbors respect you, trouble neglect you, the angels protect you, and heaven accept you.”
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day
