There are a lot more men in this world with short hair than with long hair, so when a man decides to grow his hair out long (and by long I’m talking at least past his shoulders), there aren’t a lot of examples out there on how to style it.
Luckily, though, there are styles that guys with long hair can do to tame their mane and make it look good at the same time. Here are three ways:
The Man Bun
This style has been popularized in Hollywood by men with longer hair. What it entails is pulling the hair back in a pony tail style but instead of leaving it that way, you curl the tail back in and wrap a band around it so that it looks like a bun.
Many women like to use this style to keep their hair out of their face, and I will say that this works excellently for men as well. This is a great style to use if you don’t want your hair in your eyes or if you don’t want it blowing every which way when you’re out and about without a hat or other hair covering on. You can do this style right out of the shower or wait until your hair dries a bit; either way, it will look good.
The Part Down the Middle
This is a pretty standard style for men with long hair (and even for some with short hair) and it never goes out of fashion. For those that style their hair like this normally, after a while the hair will just naturally take this shape with minimal brushing. It’s a good style if you’re going out and want to show off your hair. You might want to put a little gel in the hair before stepping outside, especially if you have somewhat light or thin hair. The gel will help weigh the hair down and keep it from looking too scraggly, especially if you’re caught in a light wind or major windstorm.
The Pony (or Man) Tail
Another classic look, the man tail is often seen in men who have really long hair that goes down the length of their back. This is another easy way to keep the hair under control and out of the face. It is different from the man bun in that the bun keeps the hair both out of the face and off the neck, while the man tail keeps the hair only out of the face. It still hangs down past the shoulders. This can be a sleek look, especially if you have straight shiny hair that tends to stay in place once you put it into the tail.
