This Easter make some do-it-yourself crafts. Here are instructions for three bunny-themed DIY crafts you can make at home.
Perler bead bunny
I personally love making Perler bead crafts. I usually make Perler bead art based off designs from video games but you can easily make any design. Here’s how to make a bunny Perler bead craft.
- 1 Square Perler bead board
- An iron
- Perler bead ironing paper
- Perler beads in the color you desire (blue, pink, black, and white are used in the picture)
First you’ll need to pick out a bunny pattern. If you search for “bunny Perler bead pattern” on Google you’ll find many patterns that you can use. You can also look at the picture provided with this article as a reference as well. Sometimes it’s even fun making up the pattern as you go along. Once you pick your pattern out begin placing the Perler beads on the board. Once you have placed all the beads on the board to form the image that you want place the Perler bead ironing paper over it. Take an iron and iron the paper that’s touching all the beads for about 5 seconds. Depending on how hot the iron is you may need to iron longer or shorter. Let the Perler bead craft cool for a couple minutes before touching it as it will be very hot. Peel the paper back to see if the beads are all melted together. If they are you can now take the craft off the board as it is now a finished craft.
Paper plate bunny
This is a simple craft that is very kid-friendly to make as no heat is involved with making this craft unlike the previous Perler bead craft.
- 2 Paper plates
- 2 Googly eyes
- Tacky or craft glue
- Pink construction paper
- Two cotton balls
- 1 black pipe cleaner
- 1 small pink puff ball
Take the small pink puff ball and glue it to the center of the one of the plates. This is the nose of the bunny. Take the two cotton balls and glue one each to the left and right side of the nose to create a 3D looking nose. Next take the black pipe cleaner and bend it to create a mouth then glue it to the plate below the nose. If you desire it you can add additional black pipe cleaners to make whiskers as well. Now take the two googly eyes and glue them to the plate on top of the nose. Take the other plate and cut it in half to create the bunny ears. Cut two pieces of the pink construction paper for the inside of the bunny ears and glue it on to the bunny ear plates. Lastly glue the ear plates to the face plates to complete your paper plate bunny craft.
This is a nice craft that can be used as a shelf decoration or as a “stuffed animal” for children. This craft involves stitching/sewing so it’s best to be made by those who know how to stitch/sew. I made this craft when I was in elementary school so it can be made by children but they would need supervision when handling the needle and scissors.
- 1 Long sock of any design you choose (a thick knitted sock works the best)
- 2 buttons
- Enough cotton balls to fill most of the sock.
- A needle that can be threaded with yarn
- Yarn (can be any color you choose but keep in mind it will be visible)
- Thread (same as the yarn choose which color you want but it will most likely be visible)
Take the long sock and fill it 3/4’s of the way full with the cotton balls. Make sure it’s firmly packed. Tie the top piece, where it is not filled with the cotton balls, off with a piece of thread. Make sure it’s securely closed then cut from the center top part of the sock down to about a half an inch of where it’s tied off. This will be the ears. Sew each of the two pieces that you just made to create the ears. Next take the yarn and sew the two buttons to create the eyes. Also sew a mouth and nose with the yarn under the eyes. You may use different colored yarn if you desire. For an example, use pink yarn for the nose and black yarn for the mouth. If you desire it you can also sew yarn around the border of the entire bunny as well to make it have a country made feel and look to it. Since everything is sewn into place this craft can be given to a child to be used as a stuffed animal since technically it is a stuffed animal.
