How many times have you looked upon an elderly loved one and beheld the grimace on their face or a tear in their eye. You know they are in pain. Every bone, muscle and joint they will tell you, are hurting and aching. You hear them pleading for relief but you are helpless. You can’t do a thing but offer to give some medication that their doctor has prescribed and pray that the LORD will give them relief. Other than that you can do nothing but what the doctor recommends.
How often have you wished or prayed that relief would soon come for yourself? That your aches and pains would go away. But it just doesn’t come. A little peace, a little relief, but it just don’t come. Some of us, especially elderly people and even some young people, suffer all day and sometimes we toss the whole night though in what I have come to call, “Plenteous misery”.
Just when you think that it will still be with you on the next day, you are pleasantly surprised that on the next day all the pains and aches that you were suffering with have gone. What is further amazing, your thoughts turn completely to the LORD and you begin to pray, give thanks, and praise God for His goodness.
There is relief. And joy has come for the moment. Praise and thanks to God for the peace, joy, and comfort that has come. It is at that moment that one realize that there are times when it seems that all hope is lost, but then hope appears and joy has come. The heartfelt joy and comfort that you know beyond a doubt came from the LORD. This is a good time to let your little light shine. I know what praying to God in faith and in the name of Jesus can do.
Today’s Thought For The Elderly: Be encouraged and not downhearted, don’t be depressed. God is still on the throne.
The fiery trials, the darts that Satan is firing at us cannot pierce the Armor of God that we are wearing. The aches and the pains that we are enduring is part of the battle that we have to fight. We are in a battle and we must fight the good fight of faith. The battle is not given to the Swift nor is it given to the strong, but to those who endure to the end.
We will endure because we lean and depend on the LORD Jesus Christ. He will keep us and nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God. Jesus said in John 10:28-30,”And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all;and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.” Praise God! As the hymn writer has said, “Oh what a fellowship, oh what a peace of mind. Leaning on the everlasting Arm. Oh how bright the path in this pilgrim way leaning on the everlasting Arm. Leaning, leaning, We are leaning on Jesus. We are safe and secure from all alarms. Leaning on the everlasting Arm. Jesus is still the answer for the World today. There is no other. Jesus the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. In Everything thing give thanks because Jesus cares.
