Heartburn is most often caused by hyperacidity. Thus the remedies on this article are targeted to address this issue.
Start drinking water the moment you wake up. Obviously your body needs water. Drinking water lowers the acidity of the stomach. This remedy should be the first one to be undertaken for heartburn. Properly hydrating the human body is good advice all around. The only side effect is a positive one. You will feel better with enough water in your body.
Diet (Watch What You Eat)
Anyone who has heartburn knows the relationship between spicy foods and it’s symptoms. If you’re not able to completely avoid spicy foods then the next best thing is to eat smaller portions. Alcohol and coffee have been known to intensify heartburn symptoms. Fruits and vegetables have fiber that help the stomach’s digestive process and counteracts hyper-acidity.
Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda has been shown to reduce stomach acidity. Generally you mix 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 8 to 12 ounces of water. Baking soda’s alkalinity counteracts the acidity that causes heartburn. This in a nutshell is how an antacid works. When trying this remedy initially use less baking soda until you are able to judge its effects when used to alleviate heartburn.
Chewing Sugarless Gum
Chewing gum sounds like a dentist’s recommendation. This remedy helps the salivary flow process. Saliva helps the digestive system. Thus it helps to alleviate the symptoms of heartburn at its very source.
Aloe Vera juice is a soothing concoction. On top of that it helps to reduce inflammation in the esophagus and the stomach. This anti-inflammatory characteristic makes it a good remedy for heartburn.
Just remember that Aloe Vera has a tendency to work us a mild laxative. In my opinion while the side effect is a little convenient it also helps in the body’s cleansing process and can only help.
There are several claims associated with Chamomile tea. One of the claims is that it can lower acidity due to its calcium content and lack of caffeine. My personal experience is it soothes the stomach and helps the symptoms of heartburn immediately.
