A Travel Agent is a great way to gain information on most any place in the world you are thinking of traveling. They will have information on the different forms of travel such as car rentals, train, airlines, cruises and combining them. You can pick-up brochures on most destinations that contain a lot of information in them.
Travel Agents Knowledge
As a past Travel Agent, we would go on what they called “Familiarization Trips” to different cities, locations, cruises, all over the world so that we would know what we were talking about when asked questions about different locations. We went on these trips to review the hotels, restaurants, and site seeing tours. I was then able to recommend and describe them to my clients from firsthand knowledge.
I went on a Familiarization trip to Canada that allowed me to see different vacation areas located in this beautiful country. My tour had lunch at a castle in the Lake Louise area, outdoor BBQ in Banff, ate dinner at a fancy restaurant that served Peanut Butter Soup. Which, I made the chef prove he used peanut butter in the soup since it did not taste like peanut butter was in it.
Destination Package Deals
When I was a travel agent my job was to find out what the client might need for their vacation such as car, flight, hotel, sightseeing tours and if their party included children or pets. If a family is traveling together, it is best to go to a resort/hotel that includes and has activities for children and accommodations for pets. However, resorts/hotels can become expensive for families.
Families- For example a family might vacationing in Hawaii could find it more cost effective for a large family to rent a condominium and a rental car instead of a hotel.
Then they can tour the island as they want and stop at the places the children might like, go to the beaches.
It also would be less expensive to feed a large family since they can fix meals at the condominium as well as fix a picnic lunch to take with them.
Adult Only- There is resorts for adults only that offer special packages that include hotel, rental car, tours, and adult activities. These resorts are located all over the world but you will need to ask the Travel Agent for these special resort brochures and information.
There are all types of cruises for families, adults only, and specialty cruises you just need to ask about them. It is best to plan at least a year ahead for a cruise so you know when the best weather for your destination and get the type of cabin you prefer. Booking in advance allows you to pay for it slowly over the year.
Nevertheless, if you know when and where you want to go you can get some great deals on cruises that are not booked up. Some cruise lines will offer a discounted rate just to fill the ship with travelers, but you might not get the location or preferred cabin type.
The sooner you can book your flight to your vacation spot the better the price will be. However, beware that some of these lower prices will come with limitations such as time of day, days of the week or cancellation policy.
Also, consider the time of year you will want to travel some airports get shut down due to bad weather. Stranded at an airport with or without kids is not an experience you would want to have. Ask about the weather patterns of the area you are traveling in.
A Travel Agent will be able to tell you if where you are traveling has a different weather pattern when one is having winter weather the other one might be having their summer weather.
