Most dictionaries define peace as freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility. Yet true real and lasting peace rarely can be found in this world. The world uses the word peace in so many ways that the average mind is confused when it comes to knowing what peace is and where it can be acquired. Some try false religions and adhere to false doctrines. Some try Islamic religions, Jehovah Witnesses, Satanism, Occults, Yogi and many other things to gain peace of mind mostly too no avail. There are some that dress themselves up under the Christian banner who are out only for monetary reward stressing monetary and material gain.
In some church denominations, the peace is symbolized as a ceremonial handshake or kiss exchanged during a service in some churches (now usually only in the Eucharist), symbolizing Christian
love and unity. Sometimes we hear the expression she has peace meaning free from anxiety or distress. Again we say, “Rest in peace” for the dead, used to suggest that someone has escaped from the difficulties of life. Sometimes it is used in a state of friendliness such as he’s a man at peace with the world. Then we hear the expression, hold your peace, meaning remain silent about something. In Law enforcement its keep the peace, refrain or prevent others from disturbing civil order. And the list goes on when it comes to using the word peace.
That being said, no wonder when the word peace is used, many are confused as to the kind of peace that one need in order to have the peace of God which passes all understanding.
To have the peace that God gives is perfect Peace. His peace comes only through His Son Jesus, the Christ. It cannot be obtained, acquired, or purchased from any other source. It is an everlasting peace. The world cannot give it to you and truly the world cannot take it away.
Why is having the peace of God so important? The souls of humanity longs for the perfect peace of God. The plight of the soul in these troubled times is tremendous that’s why. Since the life of the soul is sacred, everyday there are devilish attacks launched against it. Many unseen forces of Satan is trying to steal, kill and destroy souls. Satan will stop at nothing to destroy the souls of sinful humanity. He is out to destroy the young, the middle aged, and the elderly, male and female who has never experienced the peace of God for their troubled souls. Satan starts his attack at the embryonic stem cell during our so-called scientific research. He uses abortions, homosexuality, drug abuse, sexual abuse, child murder by sex predators, and a host of other devilish techniques to destroy the souls of human beings.
Soul trouble comes to all people regardless of their status in life. There is no selective age group. What everyone of us need to understand are the teachings of God’s Manual for Life and the Teachings of His Son Jesus, Who was God in the flesh. He said in Matthew 10:28, “And fear not them that are able to kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
John Gill, a man of God, wrote this in his Exposition of the Bible when commenting on this verse and also on Luke 12:5. He said, “But I forewarn you whom ye shall fear, I will be your monitor, and direct you to the proper object of fear and reverence, and whom you should be careful to displease and offend: fear Him, which after he hath killed; your body, as the Per-sic version adds; hath taken away the life of it, by separating soul and body asunder, by sending one disease or another, or death in one shape or another: hath the power to cast into hell; your soul, as the above version also adds; yea, to destroy both body and soul in hell, yea I say unto you, fear him: and none else, not with a servile, but with a filial fear.
Jesus Christ taught us that the peace that He gives is different from the peace of the world. He said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” The peace that one receives in Jesus is Spiritual peace that calms the disturbances of the soul. Spiritual peace is perfect peace. Those who trust in the Lord shall be kept in perfect peace. Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou(God) wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusts in Thee.” Only the Lord God can give the assurance of that kind of peace. Its Perfect peace – if you want it!
