One of the dictionary definitions for “Depression” in the psychiatric sense is, “a condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than is warranted by any objective situation or circumstance.”
Children Can Be Cruel
Let me begin by stating this article is a result of my personal observations, education and conclusions drawn over my past three score and 10 years on this planet. To be alive at this point in history in the United States of America is a blessing in itself and an awesome experience without equal.
It is my belief that we all start life here with a “blank slate” as far as having a conscious knowledge of our surrounding environment and the basic society rules concerning right and wrong and what is considered “normal.” What we are taught during our formative years ages 0 thru 7 determines the basic foundation of our character that will be built upon for the remainder of our lives. This training starts at home and is modified and reshaped when we interact with society in general.
Our earliest interaction with “society in general” usually starts at the elementary school level. Each child brings to the “table” the sum of what they have been taught and their beliefs up to that point.
Egos, One-Upmanship and Other Negative Behavior
One-upmanship is described as the practice of demonstrating or assuming superiority in one’s rivalry with a friend or opponent by obtaining privilege or status over that person.
Children are basically innocent and buy into this secular and erroneous way of thinking because they want to be accepted by their peers and this is where the deception starts. Children can also be cruel and have no problem ostracizing those they may deem as being “different.” No one wants to be left out so we try to appear as being normal, whatever that is.
What has always been a mystery to me is, “Who has been granted the right to determine what is “normal” in American society?” Also, who can meet the impossible standards set for the perceived “normal” person? We all have different fingerprints so that makes us unique from the start. I believe this might possibly be the starting point of depression in our American society since everyone wants to “fit in” and be normal. It is an illusion, like catching the wind … it cannot be done. Thus frustration sets in as we attempt to achieve that which is not possible.
God created man and gave us a free will to make choices. He also gave us a sound mind to make the choices that would be most beneficial to our well-being.
There has been much written, argued and discussed concerning depression and other mental states / disorders through out the centuries. Choose to go with whatever information fits your comfort zone since it is mainly speculation anyway.
True Information Is Power
In all of recorded history, except for the time before the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, now is the best time to be experiencing life in this country. Attitude determines altitude. How we view the world basically determines our mental well-being. A positive attitude will cancel out a negative situation every time. There is so much to enjoy in this day and age. You can select to do something different everyday of your life and not come close to doing the same thing twice … forever. If you are going about living your life correctly you will not experience depression.
For those who may be interested, I have discovered one source of truth concerning situations and circumstances within this life and it is the King James Bible (KJV.) This may be a little difficult for some but the important thing is to get and read the Holy Scriptures. Like everything else in this life worth having, one must invest the time to study and learn this information. Finding and joining a Bible teaching church is highly recommended.
The Holy Scripture does in fact work as advertised.
